Comprehensive Care at the McLeod Internal Medicine Residency Center

Medically Reviewed by Victor E. Collier, MD

When it comes to caring for adult patients with both routine and complex medical needs, the McLeod Internal Medicine Residency Center offers expert, accessible care delivered by highly experienced physicians. Led by Program Director Dr. Victor Collier, the center provides a full scope of internal medicine services for patients ages 16 and older.

A Full Spectrum of Adult Primary Care

Internal medicine focuses exclusively on adult health, and the residency center manages a wide range of acute and chronic conditions including hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart and lung disease, and other long-term or complex medical conditions.

In addition to chronic disease management, the team provides preventive care for healthy patients and also commonly serves patients who have been recently discharged from the hospital and need coordinated follow-up for multiple medical concerns.

“We take care of everything,” says Dr. Collier. “We try to do as much care as we can within our practice without excessive referrals.”

Internal Medicine vs. Family Medicine: What’s the Difference?

Because primary care specialties often overlap, many patients wonder what distinguishes internal medicine from family medicine.

According to Dr. Collier, both specialties care for adult patients and treat common chronic conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The key differences include:

Patient Population: Internal Medicine treats adults ages 16 and up only. Family Medicine treats children, adults and provides OB/women’s care.

Training and Specialization: Internal medicine is a pathway to additional subspecialty training. Physicians who go on to become cardiologists, nephrologists, pulmonologists, and other specialists all begin with three years of internal medicine residency before advancing into their specialty field. This unique training structure means internal medicine physicians often have deeper exposure to complex adult medical issues, particularly those involving chronic or multi-system diseases.

Meet the Providers

Patients at the McLeod Internal Medicine Residency Center are cared for by two seasoned physicians who oversee the internal medicine resident physicians.

Dr. Victor Collier, Program Director
Dr. Collier divides his time between inpatient and outpatient medicine and provides care in the clinic two to three half-days each week. With 20 years of internal medicine experience, he is deeply committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care and training the next generation of internal medicine physicians.

Dr. William Betz, Associate Program Director
With nearly 40 years of medical experience, Dr. Betz brings extensive expertise in both inpatient and outpatient care. Known for his strong dedication to patient safety and chronic disease management, he focuses on helping patients stay healthy and out of the hospital. Originally from Pennsylvania, he has spent the last eight years practicing in the South.

Together, Dr. Collier and Dr. Betz offer patients the benefit of decades of experience, a team-based approach and a shared passion for outstanding primary care.

Quick Access to Care

The residency center understands that timely access is vital. Most patients can be scheduled within two to three days, and almost always within a week—a significant advantage for those needing prompt evaluation or follow-up after hospitalization. To make an appointment call 843-777-7671.
