The McLeod Family Medicine Center in Florence has entered a new era of patient care and medical education. After a full renovation, the center now offers a modern, efficient space designed to meet the needs of both patients and physicians.
According to Dr. Tabitha Stellato, Associate Program Director for the McLeod Family Medicine Residency Programs, the updated facility includes three patient care areas, each with 12 exam rooms, allowing providers to see more patients while maintaining a personal, compassionate approach to care.
Beyond traditional family medicine services, the center offers several unique features that strengthen its commitment to comprehensive healthcare. A full-time dentist and dental team provide access to essential oral health services for the community. Behavioral health care is also available on-site through a psychologist and therapist, ensuring patients can receive both physical and mental health support in one location. In addition, a weekly procedure clinic allows providers to perform a variety of outpatient procedures, including mole removals, IUD and Nexplanon insertions or removals, and other minor in-office treatments.
The Family Medicine Center is staffed by both attending and resident physicians. In Florence, nine faculty members oversee care alongside 27 resident physicians. Each patient visit involving a resident is closely supervised by an attending physician, ensuring high-quality, collaborative care.
For McLeod Health, the residency program represents more than a training opportunity—it’s a long-term investment in the community’s health. “We want to provide great access to patients within the Pee Dee region. And educating new physicians and helping keep them within our area to provide better access to care is part of McLeod’s goals and vision long-term,” said Dr. Stellato.
McLeod’s goal is to retain many of its residents within the system after graduation, whether in outpatient clinics or hospitals. Keeping skilled physicians in the community helps bridge gaps in care, enhances preventive services, and strengthens the continuity of patient relationships. “This is really the way that we take better care of our patients in this region,” Dr. Stellato said.
