Your Cancer Care is Close to Home

From an interview with
Dr. T. Rhett Spencer
McLeod Radiation Oncology

Finding great cancer care is important. Yet, McLeod Radiation Oncologist Dr. Rhett Spencer says finding that great care close to home is also exceptionally important.

Here is a summary of Dr. Spencer’s comments:
My family was treated at the McLeod Center for Cancer Research & Treatment. Obviously, I love my mother and my father, and I felt like that we could do as good a job as anybody. I think that the technology we have is second to none. I think the staff that we have is excellent. I think the specialists, across the board, are all excellent. We do not conduct as much research. We do more treating and taking care of patients. We are here to take care of patients, not publish papers. We do frequently as much or more of treatment than the academic centers.

It is much better for the patient when they can sleep in their own bed and have family members around or friends around. Their emotional environment is better.

And I also think that you are going to get just better overall day-to-day care from your neighbors or somebody you might bump into in the grocery store.

I am extremely proud of the program that we have built here from top to bottom. And that goes from the people that greet you when you come in the door to the physicians, through our physics staff and nursing staff. I feel the nursing care that you get when you are a patient in this hospital is second to none. I think the overall quality that you receive is second to none. Again, I would trust any family member of mine to be treated here, and have.
