  • ADAM PLOEG, Ed.D, ATC

    Sports Medicine Director

    Adam is a 2007 graduate of Cedarville University and a 2009 graduate of Western Michigan University where he earned his Master’s degree in Exercise and Sports Medicine. In 2015, he completed his Doctorate degree in Education with an emphasis in Leadership from Liberty University. He has experience working with Collegiate and High School athletics. He also has extensively worked with the ImPACT concussion assessment program and building awareness for sickle cell trait in student-athletes. He has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2009.

  • CARLTON ANDERSON, M.Ed, ATC

    Sports Medicine

    Carlton earned a Bachelors degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1993 and received a Masters degree in Health Promotion and Kinesiology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1996. Carlton has experience with collegiate athletics as he was the head athletic trainer at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 2000-2013. He has also worked with professional organizations such as the Chicago Cubs, Washington Redskins, and Atlanta Braves. Carlton returns to McLeod as the athletic trainer for Marlboro County High School. Prior to his return, Carlton was Head Athletic Trainer at Mt. De Sales High School in Macon, GA.

  • HEIDE BURGIN, MS, ATC

    Athletic Training Coordinator

    Heide is a 1998 graduate of Clemson University, acquiring her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science. She received her Master of Sports Science degree in 2004 from the United States Sports Academy. Heide is an athletic training coordinator providing coverage for Trinity-Byrnes Collegiate School. She served as the athletic trainer at Lake City High School when she joined the McLeod Sports Medicine team in 2013. Heide comes to McLeod having primarily worked in collegiate athletics.

  • JOE CAUBLE, MA, ATC

    Athletic Training Supervisor

    Joe is a 1999 graduate of Catawba College and a 2001 graduate of Western Michigan University where he earned a Master of Arts in Athletic Training. He has experience working with High School, Collegiate and Professional athletics. He has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2004. He spent 10 years as an athletic trainer for Francis Marion University. Currently he is the head athletic trainer for Lamar High School. From 2004-2005, Joe was the head athletic trainer for the Pee Dee Pride, an ECHL ice hockey team based in Florence. Joe is FMS certified and also has experience with development and implementation of summer strength and conditioning programs for area youth. From 2001-2004, Joe served as the associate athletic trainer at Olivet (Mich.) College, an NCAA Division III member school.

    Mason is a 2003 graduate of Wofford College, a 2006 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and a 2008 graduate of the University of North Carolina where she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Mason has been practicing for 10 years and has experience with inpatient acute care, outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine. Mason is certified in Graston Technique as well as Integrative Dry Needling. Mason joined the McLeod Sports Medicine team in 2016.

  • MATTHEW FERGUSON, PT, DPT, SCS

    Sports Medicine

    Senior Physical Therapist

    Matthew is a 2007 graduate of Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA, and a 2010 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina. He has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2010. Matthew uses his background and training in fitness, sport biomechanics, movement quality, muscle function, and manual therapy to optimize recovery and performance for his patients. He is FMS certified, has experience working with post-concussive patients, and extensive experience working with both high school and collegiate athletes of various sports backgrounds. Matthew has a special interest in the assessment, rehabilitation, and performance of the overhead throwing athlete and has the privilege of working with athletes across the lifespan on a daily basis.

  • KAREN HAMMER, PT

    Sports Medicine

    Karen is a 1994 graduate of the University of Florida. Karen’s clinical background includes long term care, pediatric rehab, and specialized training in outpatient orthopedic therapy, sports medicine, chronic pain management and women’s health. Karen is certified in the Schroth Method to treat Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis. Her other special interests include the McKenzie approach for spinal rehab, muscle energy techniques, manual therapy including myofascial release techniques, and nutrition education and diabetes self management techniques. Karen joined McLeod in 2009.

  • CALLEN HARDIN

    Sports Medicine

    Callen is a Tennessee native, and 2014 Graduate of East Tennessee State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in physical education and exercise science. In 2017 she completed her Masters of Athletic Training from Lenoir-Rhyne University. She has experience working with collegiate and high school sports. Callen is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Lamar High School, and has been a part of the McLeod Sports Medicine Team since 2017.

  • JACKIE HAWK, PTA

    Sports Medicine

    Jackie Hawk is a 2008 graduate of Hocking College in Ohio. She graduated with an Associate’s degrees in Applied Science. Jackie has practiced as a Physical Therapist Assistant, in multiple practice settings, since 2008. She joined the McLeod Sports Medicine team in 2013. Jackie is experienced in both land and aquatic based therapy. She takes a special interest in treating patient post total joint replacements and working with athletes of all level.

  • ALEX HOLBROOKS, ATC, CSCS

    Alex is a Seneca, SC native. He received his bachelors of science in athletic training from Winthrop University in May 2014. He began his career as a high school athletic trainer in Mississippi. Alex joined the McLeod Sports Medicine Staff in 2016 and he is the head athletic trainer at West Florence High School. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

    Angel is a Florence County native. She is a May 2010 graduate from Charleston Southern University where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training. She is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Johnsonville High School in Johnsonville. Angel has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2010.

  • BRIAN LOWE, MS, ATC

    Sports Medicine

    Brian is a 2008 graduate of Boise State University and a 2010 graduate of Utah State University where he earned a Master’s of Science in Sports Medicine. While at Utah State, Brian worked with football, men’s and women’s track and the women’s basketball team. Brian is the Certified Athletic Trainer for North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center, Pee Dee Academy and Creekbridge High School. He also provides weekly injury screenings at North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center. Brian has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2010.

  • AMANDA OZOLINS, LAT, ATC

    Sports Medicine

    Amanda is a 2005 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training. Having grown up in a military family, she has travelled all over the US, including Alaska. While living there she was introduced to Athletic Training at a local hockey game. She has experience working with both high school athletics and collegiate sports and most recently worked at E.D. White Catholic High School in Thibodaux, La. She is currently the certified athletic trainer at Cheraw High School. She has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2016.

  • LIZ PARRISH, PTA

    Liz is a 1998 graduate of Broward Community College. She has a varied professional clinical background in orthopedics, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, geriatrics, amputees, work related injuries, spinal cord, stroke patients, Kinesio Tape, and myofascial tissue release. Liz has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2008.

  • CALEB PATE, ATC

    Sports Medicine

    Caleb graduated from Erskine College with a Bachelor of Exercise Science in Athletic Training. He has worked with collegiate and high school athletes. While in college, Caleb served as a live-in fire fighter. Caleb is the Certified Athletic Trainer at Chesterfield High School and joined the McLeod Sports Medicine team in 2017.

    Brian is a 2012 and 2014 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University where he obtained both a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science as well as a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He has experience working with Collegiate and High School athletics. Brian is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Wilson High School and has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2015.

  • ASHTON PHILLIPS, MS, ATC

    Sports Medicine

    Ashton graduated from Valdosta State University in 2015, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Athletic Training. She continued her education and athletic training experience by completing a Graduate Assistantship at Young Harris College in 2017, while receiving a Master of Science degree with a major in Physical Education at the University of North Georgia. While at Young Harris College, Ashton worked with the women’s soccer, women’s basketball, and men’s lacrosse teams. Ashton has athletic training experience in collegiate athletics, clinical, military, and high school athletics settings. Ashton is the Certified Athletic Trainer at Francis Marion University. She has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2017.

  • HOLLY PLASO, ATC

    Sports Medicine

    Holly is a 2015 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio where she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training. She is an Ohio native where she interned for Cleveland Clinic as well as interning at Ravenna High School as a student athletic trainer. She is the certified athletic trainer for Hannah-Pamplico High School. She has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2016.

  • MATT RAS

    Sports Medicine

    Matt is both a 2015 and a 2017 graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI where he obtained his bachelors’ degree and a Master’s of Science in Athletic training. During his time in Kalamazoo, he gained experience working with a variety of sports at both the collegiate and high school level. During the summer of 2014 he interned with the Kalamazoo Growlers baseball team for their inaugural season. Matt also served as a graduate assistant during his time at Western working at the high school level.

    A Charleston, SC native, Mike is a 2011 Athletic Training graduate from Winthrop University. In 2014 he completed his Masters of Science of Movement and Leisure Sciences from the University of Idaho while working as a Graduate Assistant. While at Idaho, Mike worked with women’s basketball, tennis teams, swimming and diving, and assisted with football. He has experience with collegiate and high school athletics as well as serving as a volunteer EMT. Mike is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Marion and Creek Bridge High Schools. He has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2014.

  • ERIC ROUX

    Sports Medicine

    Eric is a 2013 graduate of High Point University and a 2015 graduate of the University of Connecticut where he earned a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Lower Extremity Injury Prevention. He has experience working with Recreational, Collegiate, and Professional athletics. He currently is an assistant athletic trainer for Francis Marion University. Previous to McLeod Sports Medicine he spent 2 years as the Coordinator of Injury Prevention and Care at Georgia Southern University. Additionally, from 2016-2017, Eric served as the head athletic trainer for South Georgia Tormenta FC, an USL-PDL soccer team based in Statesboro, GA. Eric is FMT Blade certified through RockTape and also a CrossFit Level One trainer. Eric joined the McLeod Sports Medicine team in 2017.

    Erika is a 1996 graduate of the University of South Carolina and a 2000 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina. She has a varied professional clinical background in sports related and work related injuries, general orthopedics, outpatient rehabilitation, and aquatic therapy. She has experience working with Youth, High School and Collegiate athletics. Erika has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2000.

  • MELISSA SANCHEZ, PT, DPT, ATC

    Sports Medicine

    Melissa is a 2005 and 2008 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in Athletic Training and Physical Therapy. She is also a Certified Kinesio Tape Practitioner. Melissa has experience working in the clinic as well as with High School and Collegiate athletics. She is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Florence Christian Schools. Melissa has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2012.

    Eric is a 2013 graduate of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Masters of Arts in Kinesiology and Sport Studies. He has experience working with professional, collegiate and high school athletes. Eric is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Francis Marion University.

    Jamie is a 2014 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, OH with a Bachelors of Arts in Athletic Training and Exercise Physiology. After graduating from Baldwin Wallace University she was an intern for Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports where she worked a variety of athletics and age levels. She has experience with adolescents, high school and college level athletes. Jamie is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Cheraw High School.

    Brad is a 2011 graduate of Morehead State University where he played football and a 2014 graduate of the University of Kentucky. Brad is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He has a special interest in conducting research involving throwing athletes as well as hip and knee mechanics during power activities. Brad has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2014.

    Sara Selander, PT, DPT is a 2005 graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC and a 2008 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina. Her professional clinical background includes inpatient acute care, outpatient orthopedics, and sports medicine. She has been a member of the McLeod team since 2012.

    Athletic Training Coordinator

    Jake is a 2014 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University where he obtained his Master of Science degree in Athletic Training. In 2011 he graduated from Coastal Carolina University with his Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science. He has experience with the Collegiate and High School setting of athletic training. Jake is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Darlington High School, serves as an Athletic Training Coordinator, and has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2014.

    Lauren is a 2017 graduate of The University of Memphis where she earned a Master of Science degree in Health and Sport Sciences. While at Memphis, she served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for softball and women’s golf, and assisted with football. Prior to Memphis, she interned as a Certified Athletic Trainer at Presbyterian College providing coverage for volleyball and softball, and assisted with football. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Winthrop University in May 2013. Lauren joined McLeod Sports Medicine in 2017 as a Certified Athletic Trainer at Mullins High School.

    Sports Medicine

    Trent is a native of Monroe, North Carolina, and a 2015 graduate of Wingate University where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Trent has experience in collegiate and high school athletics. He also has dreams of obtaining his Doctorate in Physical Therapy to further increase his ability and knowledge of helping others.

  • DAVE HEIM

    Sports Medicine

    Dave Heim is a native of New Jersey. He is a 2005 and 2007 graduate of Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science with a Specialization in Athletic Training and a Master’s degree in Educational Technology. He has experience working in the collegiate, high school, and clinical settings. Currently, he teaches Sports Medicine for Florence School District 1 at West Florence High School. Prior to moving to the classroom Dave was the head athletic trainer for West Florence High School from 2011 to 2016. He currently assists with providing athletic training coverage for The King’s Academy and Dillon Christian School. He has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2011.

    Andrea comes to McLeod Sports Medicine after completing a Graduate Assistantship with Purdue University. She received a Master’s of Science degree in May 2010, with an emphasis in Athletic Training Education. Andrea has experience in the clinic, high school, and collegiate settings. She received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Athletic Training in 2003 from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Andrea is now a clinical athletic trainer working with Dr. Chadley Runyan and has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2010.

    Jessica is a 2007 graduate of Eastern Washington University and a 2010 graduate of Utah State University where she earned a Master’s of Science in Sports Medicine. She worked with the women’s basketball, football and the men’s and women’s tennis teams while at Utah State University. Jessica joined the McLeod Sports Medicine team in 2010 and most recently worked with Mullins High School.

    Brooke is a 2005 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training. She also has a degree in biology from Francis Marion University. Brooke has experience with high school and collegiate athletes as well as arena football. She has been a member of the Sports Medicine team since 2009.

    Valencia graduated from Wingate University & is a graduate of University of Vermont earning a Master’s degree in Nutrition & Food Sciences. She has experience working with Collegiate and High School athletics. Currently, she is teaching Sports Medicine for the Florence Career Center at Wilson High School. She provides athletic training coverage for The King’s Academy. She has been a member of the McLeod Sports Medicine team since 2000.

  • SARAH SHAEFFER, ATC

    Sarah is a 2005 graduate of Duquesne University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training and a Minor in Psychology. She is also certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and holds a certificate as a Performance Enhancement Specialist. From 2005-2015, she was the athletic trainer for Loris High School. When joining the McLeod Sports Medicine team in 2015 she was the certified athletic trainer for South Florence High School. Sarah is now a clinical athletic trainer working with Dr. Patrick Denton.

  • DAVE STOKLOSA, MS, ATC, CSCS

    Dave Stoklosa, MS, ATC, CSCS is a 2000 graduate of SUNY Brockport and a 2001 graduate of Indiana State University. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He has experience working with high school, collegiate, and Olympic athletics. Dave was formerly the Sports Performance Specialist for McLeod Sports Medicine and is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Robert E. Lee High School. Dave has been a member of McLeod Sports Medicine since 2012.
