Columbia, S.C. – Governor Nikki Haley and The Original Six Foundation announced today that Dillon County Day is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Dillon County Day is taking place in partnership with the 25th Annual McLeod Medical Center Dillon Health Fair. The activities will take place at the City of Dillon Wellness Center located at 1647 Commerce Drive in Dillon, S.C.

Dillon County Day marks the eighth community day The Original Six Foundation has organized as a part of a major statewide initiative designed to help provide the tools and resources needed for challenged South Carolina communities to grow and succeed.

"Dillon County has so much potential and we are very excited to be raising awareness and providing the needed support through our partnership with the 25th Annual McLeod Medical Center Dillon Health Fair," said Gov. Nikki Haley. "This is all about neighbors helping neighbors and we are incredibly encouraged by the individuals, businesses, churches, and community organizations who want to help the lift up Dillon County and make it an even better place to live and raise a family."

In partnership with McLeod Medical Center Dillon and hundreds of community volunteers, The Original Six Foundation will provide a variety of resources and support that were determined to be essential through collaboration with local leaders in Dillon County. Activities include a health fair, which will provide plenty of family fun while highlighting the importance of personal health maintenance. Thanks to generous funding from the McLeod Health Foundation, the health fair will offer free and low cost screenings as well as information about health care programs and Medicaid eligibility.

The first 200 school-age children (18 years and younger) to complete a minimum of four health screenings are eligible for a sports ball of their choice.

The low cost screenings are as follows (all other screenings are free of charge):

Complete Blood Count/Chemistry Profile/Thyroid Test – $25
Lipid Profile – $20
Mammogram – $55
Prostate Cancer screening (blood test recommended for males over 50) – $15
EKG – $15

To reduce wait times and lines on the day of the Health Fair, pre-registration for paid health screenings is encouraged. Pre-registration will be held Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the McLeod Dillon hospital lobby. Anyone having blood work performed should not eat twelve hours prior to coming to the health fair.  For more information on the health screenings, please contact McLeod Reservations and Scheduling at 843-777-2005 or 1-800-667-2005.

Additional activities will include a job fair that will provide attendees the opportunity to work on their resume and link them with onsite employers.  Information about continuing education programs and a baby shower for expectant mothers will also be available at 1:00 PM.  Lunch during the event will be free for all and Cocky’s Reading Express will take place at 11:15 AM.
