Operation Medicine Drop Disposes of Unused, Expired Medication

McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 16 NOVEMBER 2010

(11/16/10) –
Operation Medicine Drop, presented by Safe Kids Florence, led by McLeod Health, and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, is a program aimed at providing the public a safe and secure method for disposing of prescription and over-the-counter medications. While many parents and caregivers are familiar with poisoning culprits such as cleaning supplies and poisonous plants, many childhood poisonings occur from medications. The best form of prevention is to remove any risk from a child’s environment.

Featured at this weekend’s Holly Jolly Day at the Festival of Trees on Saturday, November 20 at the McLeod Medical Plaza from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Operation Medicine Drop will host a take-back event where the public can drop off expired or unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medications. The Florence County Sheriff’s Office will dispose of the medications in a safe and secure way.

Operation Medicine Drop is sponsored by Safe Kids Florence, led by McLeod Health, and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. For more information about Operation Medicine Drop, please call Safe Kids Florence at (843) 777-5021. Safe Kids Florence is funded in part by the McLeod Foundation.
