New Cancer Center Features Patient-Centered Environment

McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 28 FEBRUARY 2014

Patient-Centered Environment

The new McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research consolidates diagnosis, treatment, recovery and rehabilitation resources in one place. Patients will find Infusion Services (such as chemotherapy), Radiation Oncology and their cancer specialists all in the new Center. New radiation technology – Stereotactic RadioSurgery – will enable fewer treatments and less harm of damage to healthy tissue thanks to computer-guided multiple beams.

Centered in one Place for Patients and Families.

Patients receiving chemotherapy on the first floor may view the healing garden enclosed by a water wall of tranquility.  The hallway connects the Cancer Center to the McLeod Tower to help patients and visitors more easily find the library, pharmacy, the spa and boutique.

SRS – Better, More Targeted Radiation Therapy

Radiation Oncology will soon offer patients the latest technology in treatment with installation of a new "super" linear accelerator specifically designed for Stereotactic Radiosurgery.  This advancement will provide very precise treatment to tumors in the brain and other organs in the body, while minimizing harm to healthy tissue and critical areas such as the spinal cord and lungs.

Navigators – Friend, Advocate, Guide

Oncology Navigators are available to guide patients from their first diagnosis through appointments and follow ups for surgery and treatment. Navigators answer patient’s questions and ensure patients find the resources they need in McLeod or the community.

McLeod remains the only “Comprehensive Community Cancer Program in the region accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.
