NASCAR Driver Visits McLeod Cancer Center

McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 4 AUGUST 2017

Robin Aiken, Chair of the HOPE Fund Advisory Committee, accepts a donation to the HOPE Fund from Kerry Tharp, President of the Darlington Raceway, and NASCAR Driver Martin Truex, Jr.

NASCAR Driver Martin Truex, Jr., visited the McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research on August 1. Truex received a tour of the Cancer Center and met with patients and staff.

During his visit, the Darlington Raceway also made a $2,500 donation to the McLeod Foundation’s HOPE Fund in honor of Truex and his girlfriend, Sherry Pollex who is currently undergoing cancer treatment in their hometown of Charlotte.

Countless cancer patients have benefitted from the establishment of the HOPE (Helping Oncology Patients Everyday) Fund since October of 2014. Guided by an advisory group of community members who have been touched by cancer either as a patient or caregiver, the HOPE Fund continues to grow. The advisory committee ensures that generous donations to the HOPE Fund are designated for cancer patient support services such as medication, transportation and nutrition assistance as well as to provide the oncology staff with improved access for the immediate needs of their patients. The Fund also supports the Cancer Center’s volunteer program and educational resources for patients and families.
