(1/27/2014) McLeod Loris Seacoast is pleased to announce that Susan Douglas, RN, CEN, was recently named 2013 South Carolina Emergency Nurses Association Nurse of the Year for outstanding service.
Douglas was nominated by David Suggs, Emergency Department Assistant Director of Nursing, for her dedication to the profession of nursing for more than 30 years. She worked in cardiology, the operating room and critical care before becoming an emergency room nurse. Douglas is a long-time member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and is very active in her local chapter. She has earned the distinction of being the first emergency room nurse at McLeod Loris Seacoast to receive her certification in emergency nursing.
"It is no surprise to me that Susan was recognized for excellence in nursing, "said Shannon Godwin, Emergency Department Director of Nursing at McLeod Loris Seacoast. "I am proud to have her as a member of our team of dedicated emergency nurses."
Each year, nurses across the state are nominated for this prestigious award. To be selected, the nominee must be an active member of the ENA, reside in South Carolina and hold a current and unrestricted South Carolina registered nurse’s license, have a national certification in emergency nursing and demonstrate a commitment to continued quality improvement. The nominee must currently hold a position in an emergency or trauma area such as the emergency room, flight, ambulance, prehospital, telephone triage and pediatric emergency room.
ENA is the only professional nursing association dedicated to defining the future of emergency nursing and emergency care through advocacy, expertise, innovation and leadership. Founded in 1970, ENA serves as the voice of 44,000 members and their patients through research, publications, professional development, injury prevention and patient education.
