McLeod Health Welcomes These New Physicians

McLeod Health welcomes Dr. Matthew Fanelli, a Dermatologist, and Dr. Richard Gunter, a Hospitalist, to the Medical Staff.

Dr. Fanelli joins McLeod Physician Associates and will serve patients at the newly established practice of McLeod Dermatology Associates. Dr. Fanelli comes to McLeod from Mohs Surgery and Dermatology of Elgin, Illinois. He has practiced medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology in private practice since 2014, following the completion of his residency training.

A native of Maryland, Dr. Fanelli received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland in 2009. In 2010, he was a Dermato-Epidemiology Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and Transitional Intern – Intern of the Year for the Department of Medicine, Harbor Hospital in Baltimore in 2011. Dr. Fanelli completed Residency training for Dermatology in 2014, serving as Chief Resident, at the Department of Dermatology, Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

As a general dermatologist, Dr. Fanelli provides care for a broad range of skin concerns. Commonly treated conditions include acne, rosacea, rashes, bumps and growths, skin discoloration, scalp and hair conditions, eczema, dermatitis, and skin cancers.

Dr. Gunter comes to McLeod with more than 20 years of experience, having served as a family medicine physician at Novant Health Rock Hill Family Medicine since 1994.

Dr. Gunter served in the United States Army on active duty from 1987 to 1994. He deployed with the 307th Medical Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, during Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989 and Operations Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia and Iraq in 1990-91. He also served as faculty in the family medicine residency program at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from 1990 to 1994.

Board Certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Gunter recived his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 1987. He completed his Family Medicine Residency as Chief Resident at the Womack Army Medical Center, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1990. Dr. Gunter also completed a Fellowship in Faculty Development in Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1993.
