McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 21 JUNE 2010

(6/21/10) – McLeod Medical Center Darlington and McLeod Behavioral Health Services are pleased to announce the Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and Nursing Technician of the Year recipients for 2010. The winners are Edgard Sarmiento, RN; Nettie Johnson, RN; Janet Townsend, LPN; and Sharon McDuffie, MST.
Edgard Sarmiento has been a nurse with McLeod for two years. He is a staff nurse on the Medical-Surgical Unit for McLeod Medical Center Darlington.

‘Edgard exhibits professionalism in every manner,’ said Virginia Hardee, Nursing Director of McLeod Medical Center Darlington. ‘He seeks to help others out even if his own workload is heavy. Edgard is described by his co-workers as friendly and professional as well as kind and compassionate to patients and fellow staff.’

Nettie Johnson began her career as a registered nurse more than 30 years ago. She has been a nurse with McLeod Behavioral Health Services since October of 1992. Nettie’s coworkers describe her as hardworking, compassionate, caring, funny, and willing to always go the extra mile for her patients.

‘Nettie is very respectful and conscious of protecting the dignity of our patients,’ said Pat Godbold, Administrator of McLeod Medical Center Darlington and McLeod Behavioral Health Services. ‘She has been known on many occasions to purchase clothing and other personal items for patients. She is also willing to perform what some would consider undesirable patient care tasks. In addition, Nettie’s years of psychiatric nursing experience make her a vital part of the McLeod Behavioral Health team.’

Janet Townsend, a Licensed Practical Nurse, has been employed with McLeod for four years. She works in the Skilled Care Unit of McLeod Medical Center Darlington.

‘Janet displays the quality of professionalism,’ said Hardee. ‘She is always thinking about others. Janet often brings in treats for co-workers just to brighten their day. Her co-workers find it a pleasure to work with her. Janet is a positive image for nursing.’

Sharon McDuffie has worked at McLeod for five years. As a Medical Surgical Technician, McDuffie cares for patients on the Skilled Care Unit. McDuffie is also currently enrolled at Florence-Darlington Technical College to obtain her nursing degree.

‘Sharon communicates well with everyone,’ explained Hardee. ‘She works diligently, has excellent skills and provides her patients with the highest quality of care. Sharon goes above and beyond the call of duty; going out of her way to help everyone.’

‘We are proud of all our nurses here,’ said Godbold. ‘These individuals are selected by votes from their peers, which speaks volumes on how strongly their co-workers feel they positively represent the McLeod organization.’
