Dr. Carl Chelen Elected Chair of Pediatric Department

McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 11 MARCH 2013

(2/27/13) – McLeod Pediatric Intensivist Dr. Carl Chelen has been elected as Pediatric Department Chair for McLeod Regional Medical Center. This department consists of pediatricians, neonatologists and pediatric intensivists who work in collaboration with one another to ensure that all pediatric patients receive quality medical care at McLeod.

Sarah Roland, Director of McLeod Children’s Hospital, explains that she looks forward to working with Dr. Chelen to bring ideas into action. "Dr. Chelen is dedicated to the patients he serves at McLeod, regardless if the child is in intensive care, ambulatory care, the emergency department or radiology," says Sarah. "Dr. Chelen is also an advocate for nurses. He works with our staff nurses to educate and develop their clinical skills."

Dr. Chelen is Board Certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He completed his medical degree at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and a Pediatrics Residency at the Pennsylvania State University Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He also completed a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford in Stanford, California.

In the community, Dr. Chelen serves as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America and volunteers his services at Camp Coker every summer. He has four children and resides in Florence
