(6/08/09) – The 2009 Children’s Miracle Network Celebration Broadcast raised $825,236 for McLeod Children’s Hospital. The Celebration Broadcast is a culmination of year-round efforts dedicated to helping hospitalized children. The McLeod Children’s Hospital is the local partner for Children’s Miracle Network providing the highest level of pediatric care and technology in the region.

The Broadcast took place Saturday, May 30, on WBTW News 13. Three children treated at McLeod Children’s Hospital were featured during this year’s celebration. These miracle children were Kenyeon Lloyd of Effingham, Nasir Montgomery of Lake City, and Jamiey Teal of Cheraw.

Funds generated nationally by Children’s Miracle Network are used to benefit children treated at 170 hospitals throughout North America. One hundred percent of locally-generated donations stay right here at McLeod Children’s Hospital. These funds are used to purchase highly specialized equipment for the McLeod Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which help advance the treatment of critically ill and injured children and infants.

Funds are also utilized to establish summer camps for children with asthma, diabetes and sickle cell, support programs such as injury prevention, and community health education programs.

More than 100 beds at McLeod are dedicated to serve the needs of children in McLeod Children’s Hospital, the NICU and PICU, and McLeod Day Hospital. Each year approximately 26,000 children are treated at McLeod either as an inpatient, outpatient, or rehabilitation patient.
