Area Hospitals Offer Annual Health Fair & Screenings to Improve Community Health

(4/17/12) – Annual Event Moves to North Myrtle Beach High School

McLeod Loris/Seacoast will hold a Health & Wellness Fair from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012. Traditionally, the annual health fair has been held at an area mall, but this year’s event will be held at North Myrtle Beach High School located on Sea Mountain Highway in Little River.

This year’s Health & Wellness event includes a wide variety of free and reduced health screenings and medical information. Representatives from local hospitals and physician offices will be on hand to discuss and share information on the following:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart health
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Preventive care and wellness information
  • Information on hospital programs and services
  • Diet and nutrition information

Some of the free screenings include:

  • Hypertension/Blood pressure checks
  • Diabetes/Blood sugar
  • Skin cancer
  • Sleep disorders

There will also be a $25.00 complete metabolic blood panel offered which will provide results on cholesterol levels, blood sugar, liver and kidney function.. Individuals planning to participate in the screening are encouraged to fast at least 12 hours prior to testing.

Additional screenings will also be available for nominal fees. These screenings include one for prostate cancer (PSA- $10), complete blood count (CBC-$20) and thyroid panel ($25).

Health fair participants include: Family Life Medicine, Smoke Free Horry, Seacoast Primary Care, Seacoast Podiatry Associates, Pee Dee Cardiology, Coastal Cancer Center, Coastal Podiatry, McLeod Sports Medicine and other medical professionals offering an array of health information and services.
