  • McLeod Health Dillon, Inspired by Its Religious Roots, Continues to Expand Health Services

    McLeod Health Dillon became part of McLeod Health in 1998, but it’s service goes back to World War II and the vision of local surgeon Dr. William Branford. He appealed to  Catholic Bishop Emmet Walsh in Charleston, who ask for assistance from the St Louis-based Sisters of St. Mary.

    They traveled to Dillon and helped raise money for St. Eugene,  a 4-story hospital that opened in 1943. After several decades, a new facility was needed. In only 14 days the citizens of Dillon County raised $400,000 to help fund a $3 million facility that opened in 1972. The hospital’s name may have changed but it’s mission and commitment to Dillon County remains the same.
