McLeod Health is continuing its commitment to strengthening the region’s healthcare workforce through a $25,000 contribution to USC Sumter. The gift will support the campus’s nursing education programs and help prepare students to meet the growing need for qualified healthcare professionals.
Nursing represents the nation’s largest health care profession and the largest single component of hospital staffing. The demand for nurses continues to increase as communities grow and the health care needs of an aging population expand.
“Preparing the next generation of nurses is essential to ensuring patients continue to receive safe, compassionate and high-quality care,” said Denise Allison, Chief Nursing Officer for McLeod Health Clarendon. “By supporting nursing education at USC Sumter, we are helping students develop the knowledge and skills they need to serve patients throughout our region.”
Nurses are essential members of the medical team and contribute to nearly every aspect of patient care. In addition to providing clinical care, they advocate for patients, promote safe health care environments, educate patients and families, and contribute to the development of healthcare practices and policies.
“Our nurses play a tremendous role in fulfilling the McLeod Health mission of improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” Allison added. “Their expertise, leadership and dedication allow our hospitals to provide excellent care while operating safely and efficiently.”
McLeod Health Clarendon Chief Executive Officer Scott Adams said the contribution reflects the organization’s commitment to education and the local community. “USC Sumter is a valued partner in preparing the skilled healthcare professionals our communities need,” Adams said. “We depend on each graduating class for well-educated, qualified candidates who are ready to begin successful careers and meet the healthcare needs of our region. This gift is an investment in USC Sumter students, our future employees, and the patients and families who will benefit from their care for many years to come.”
Dr. Eric Reisenauer, USC Sumter Campus Dean, expressed appreciation for McLeod Health Clarendon’s longstanding support and partnership. “USC Sumter is so grateful for the longstanding and generous support from McLeod Health Clarendon. McLeod was one of our nursing program’s earliest and strongest advocates, and this gift demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the region now and in the future. USC Sumter greatly values our partnership with McLeod, and I am pleased that we have been able to place multiple nursing graduates at McLeod Health Clarendon. I look forward to continuing to work together to build on this success.”
