“A” Grade for Spring 2025 is a National Recognition for Patient Safety

McLeod Health Cheraw, McLeod Health Clarendon, McLeod Health Dillon, McLeod Health Loris, McLeod Health Seacoast, and McLeod Regional Medical Center received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This national distinction celebrates these hospitals’ achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors. The Leapfrog Group assigns grades to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

“This recognition is a reflection of our teams’ hard work, dedication, and tireless efforts to provide quality care for our patients,” said Dr. John Byrnes, Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer for McLeod Health. “Surveys such as Leapfrog help us provide a culture of safety and identify how we can continue to improve the delivery of compassionate, quality care for every patient.”

“At McLeod Health, patient safety and quality care are our top priorities,” said Donna Isgett, President and CEO of McLeod Health. “All of our hospitals receiving a Leapfrog Safety Grade A is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team in providing exceptional patient care and maintaining the highest level of safety standards across the McLeod Health System.

“The pursuit of quality improvement is an unending journey, and our teams are to be commended for their commitment to providing safe, quality care for every patient we have the privilege to serve,” added Isgett.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
