McLeod Electrophysiology Team Receives Healthgrades 2020 5-Star Recognition
for Pacemaker Procedures

McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 24 JULY 2020

Dr. Alan Blaker, Executive Medical Director of the McLeod Heart and Vascular Institute, and McLeod Associate Vice President Cletus Sawyer, recently congratulated McLeod Electrophysiologist Dr. Prabal Guha and his team on the 2020 Five-Star Recognition from Healthgrades for Cardiac Pacemaker Procedures.

“McLeod achieving such a high rating could not have been accomplished without the Electrophysiology Team working together,” said Dr. Blaker. “The Healthgrades recognition is clear evidence of the high quality of care patients receive at McLeod.”

Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. Variation in hospital quality can have a significant impact on the quality of care a patient receives. Healthgrades compared 2020 Award Recipient Hospitals as a group, to all other hospitals, and found that on average:

  • Patients have a 57.3% lower risk of complication if treated at hospitals that received the 5-Star for Cardiac Pacemaker Procedures, versus hospitals that received a 1-Star.
  • Patients are 2.3 times more likely to experience one or more complications if treated at hospitals rated 1-Star for Cardiac Pacemaker Procedures, versus hospitals that received a 5-Star. (Statistics are based on Healthgrades analysis of MedPAR data for years 2016 through 2018 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only.)
