Groundbreaking Held for McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research at Seacoast

McLEOD HEALTH SEACOAST 3 JULY 2023

(July 17, 2023 – Little River, SC) McLeod Health held a groundbreaking ceremony for the McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research at Seacoast on Monday, July 17, 2023.

A significant milestone in cancer care was announced during the ceremony as attendees learned that this would be the first Comprehensive Cancer Center in Horry County where all cancer treatment services are under one roof. The state-of-the-art facility is being designed to prioritize convenience for patients and their families while providing the advanced cancer care they need. Services in the new Cancer Center will include medical oncology, infusion (chemotherapy/immunotherapy) services and radiation oncology.

“Today, we break ground to raise a new service, but also to construct a bridge to extend resources and medical excellence that differentiates McLeod as this community’s healthcare provider of choice,” said Ronald Fowler, Chairman of the McLeod Health Board of Trustees, in offering the welcome. “Someone once wrote that bridges are a monument to progress. And that’s what this new Cancer Center will offer. Progressive treatments, compassionate care, and hope for those in need of advanced oncology services, with cutting edge technology and professional cancer care teams.”

Donna Isgett, President and CEO of McLeod Health, said, “The mission of McLeod Health is to improve the overall health and well-being in the communities we serve. We are steadfast in our commitment to provide quality healthcare to the residents of Horry County and this investment in the provision of cancer services accommodates the healthcare demands of our growing area and will provide access to quality cancer care in one location to benefit our patients. The new Cancer Center we are going to construct demonstrates a very visible example of McLeod Health’s commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the residents in Horry County and surrounding communities.”

“Working with our Administration and McLeod Health Foundation, this groundbreaking for the McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research at Seacoast is a culmination of our vision to provide the highest quality cancer care to patients in our region,” said Dr. Donny Huynh, an oncologist with McLeod Oncology and Hematology Associates Seacoast. “We look forward to expanding the medical oncology and infusion services we have been offering patients in Horry County for the past eight years and the addition of radiation oncology treatment will mean patients can receive all of their cancer care in one location.”

In closing the remarks, Monica Vehige, CEO of McLeod Loris Seacoast, said, “We want to be there to care for our newcomers to Horry County as well as those who have lived in this region for generations. As we continue to expand our services to meet the needs of our growing, local community, the new Cancer Center on our campus will allow us to offer patients: oncology and hematology, infusion treatments and radiation oncology all in one building making this truly the first Comprehensive Cancer Center in Horry County.”

The McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research at Seacoast will cost more than $32 million. This program will offer innovative multi-disciplinary care, improved access to preventive medicine and superior technology such as the new Stereotactic Radiosurgery Unit, a Large Bore CT Scanner, and a Digital PET/CT Scanner — all tools that will be used to improve the health and well-being for patients in this region. The Cancer Center will provide not only immediate access to advanced cancer care technology, but also access to enhanced communication, coordination and multi-disciplinary treatment planning and delivery of care. This will all be possible in an environment dedicated to the physical and emotional health of cancer patients and their families.

The McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research at Seacoast is scheduled to open in early 2025.
