(January 18, 2018 – Florence, SC) McLeod Regional Medical Center named Jackie Amerson as the Volunteer of the Year for 2017. The announcement was made during the annual McLeod Volunteer Recognition Luncheon held January 18, 2018 at the Hellenic Center.

Amerson is the 30th recipient of the McLeod Volunteer of the Year award. A dedicated volunteer since 2009, Amerson has volunteered more than 2,600 hours during her years of service to McLeod.

In presenting the award to the Amerson, Linda Boone, Director of Volunteer Services for McLeod, said, “Jackie has served on the Volunteer Auxiliary Board since 2011. In 2013, she began her three-year term as President of the Board, and she continues to serve as a board member today.”

Boone added that Amerson has provided outstanding volunteer leadership for events that helped raise funds for various programs including the McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment and Research and the new Emergency Department.

“Every department we send Jackie to will request that she come back and help again. We love her and depend on her because we know we can. We also know that when we leave something in Jackie’s hands, it will be a little better when we return.”

In addition to the Volunteer of the Year announcement, Margaret Saverance was recognized with the High Hour Honor for giving more than 20,575 hours to the medical center during her 20 years of volunteerism with McLeod. Geneva Kirkland was also honored for volunteering the most hours in 2017 with 1,902.

Nearly 250 volunteers who contribute outstanding service to McLeod Regional Medical Center were honored during the luncheon. All total these volunteers and the hospital’s 85 summer junior volunteers contributed nearly 44,000 hours to the medical center in 2017. During the luncheon, certificates and pins were also presented to volunteers who have given more than 1,000 hours of service to the hospital and honored all those with more than 50 hours of service.

McLeod Regional Medical Center honors its volunteers annually by presenting service awards to recognize their special efforts and outstanding contributions.
