Teens Certified As Safe Sitters

McLEOD LORIS 13 JUNE 2012

(6/13/12) – McLeod Loris Seacoast recently held Safe Sitter training for area youth at North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center, awarding four participant’s completion cards recognizing their training in babysitting preparation.

Safe Sitter classes are designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 13.  Class participants learn safety and security precautions, such as watching the child at all times, what to do if a child is unconscious or choking, and when to call for help. They receive information on child development and learn practical business tips since babysitting is most often a teen’s first job.

To successfully complete the Safe Sitter program, students have to pass a practical and written test to show they have mastered the key concepts of the course and have the skills necessary to handle an emergency.

“Safe Sitter teaches the students everything they need to know to become dependable, prepared baby sitters,” according to Christy Allsbrook, Safe Sitter Instructor. “These graduates were eager to learn as much as possible and excelled in each area of the course. They are going to be wonderful Safe Sitters.”
