Thirteen students representing West Florence, Wilson, and South Florence High Schools celebrated the end of the McLeod Health Careers Course at McLeod Regional Medical Center on Friday, May 23. This course is designed for 12th grade students interested in the pursuit and development of a career in the medical field. The class is instructed and coordinated by McLeod Workforce Development.
This high school honors course is a partnership between McLeod Health and Florence 1 Schools. Students spent ten weeks completing rotations through various departments at McLeod Regional Medical Center for experiential learning. Working together in groups, students were challenged to develop a research project for potential hospital improvement, meeting with hospital team members and leaders to help implement their processes and phases. Group project results were presented at the celebration along with personal reflections on their program experiences and how it impacted their decisions to continue in healthcare.
