McLeod Sports Medicine Hosts Free Injury Clinics for High School Athletes

(8/18/10) – Injuries are part of any sport. When an injury occurs it is important to seek proper medical attention. Timely assessment and treatment of an athlete’s injury can be critical to that athlete’s safe return to sport.
The Certified Athletic Trainers of McLeod Sports Medicine Center along with Dr. Brian Blair of McLeod Orthopaedics, Dr. Pat Denton of Pee Dee Orthopaedic Associates and Family Medicine Residents from McLeod Family Medicine Center are hosting free Saturday Injury Clinics for high school athletes.

The Injury Clinics begin Saturday, August 21 and will be held throughout the fall 2010 Sports Season. The free clinics are held from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. every Saturday at McLeod Family Medicine Health & Fitness located at the McLeod Health and Fitness Center, 2437 Willwood Drive in Florence.

The clinic staff of physicians, Certified Athletic Trainers and X-ray technicians will provide a complimentary medical assessment to evaluate the athlete’s injury and make sure the injury is properly treated. They will also determine if the injury requires an x-ray, if a referral is needed for physical therapy or if the athlete needs to see an orthopedic surgeon or other specialist. The most common injuries seen include concussions, bruises, ankle sprains, knee and shoulder injuries.
