(6/14/2013) McLeod Loris Seacoast offered free balance screenings and education to the senior community at Saltaire Village in Calabash, NC, on June 12 in an effort to evaluate their fall risk potential and avoid future injuries.
Research shows that each year one in every three adults age 65 and older suffers from a fall. Falls cause moderate to severe injuries, such as hip fractures and head injuries, which increase the risk of early death. However, falls can often be prevented.
McLeod Loris Seacoast’s free balance screenings are conducted by a certified physical therapist who works one on one with an individual to discuss any medical conditions or concerns and determine any other factors that could contribute to a fall. Together, they work to identify ways to make falls less likely.
Both land and water physical therapies are offered by the McLeod Loris Seacoast. For more information about the types of rehabilitative services offered at McLeod Loris Seacoast or to register for an upcoming balance screening, please call (843) 390-8326.
