McLeod Health Honors Outstanding Work of Physicians

McLEOD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER 30 MARCH 2010

(3/30/10) – Doctors’ Day each year celebrates and acknowledges the vital role doctors play to protect our health and well-being. At McLeod Health, more than 350 physicians in Florence, Darlington and Dillon go above and beyond every day to provide exemplary care for their patients.
National Doctors’ Day is recognized on March 30th in the United States. The first Doctors’ Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia, according to www.doctorsday.org. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, planned a day filled with activities to honor physicians, which included mailing greeting cards to physicians and placing flowers on the graves of deceased physicians.

On October 30, 1990, President George Bush signed Senate Joint Resolution #366 (which became Public Law 101-473) designating March 30th as "National Doctors’ Day."

McLeod Health asked community members and staff to send an online or handwritten thank you to their physician sharing personal thoughts and expressions of gratitude. McLeod received hundreds of thank you notes, including drawings from children at a local school. These thank you’s were presented to physicians at events held at McLeod Health campuses in Florence, Darlington and Dillon.
