McLeod Health Welcomes These New Physicians

McLeod Health welcomes new physicians Kanaklakshmi Masodkar, MD, MS, and Robert H. Messier, Jr., MD.

Dr. Masodkar joins the department of Hospital Based Specialists at McLeod Regional Medical Center as a Consult Psychiatrist. Dr. Masodkar received her medical degree from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India, in 2006. She also holds a Master of Science in Human Nutrition (MS) from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, Minneapolis, MN which was completed in 2009. Dr. Masodkar comes to McLeod following the completion of her General Psychiatry Residency at Texas Tech University, where she served as Chief Resident for General Psychiatry.

A native of India, Dr. Masodkar and her husband, Nilesh Sathe, look forward to becoming a part of the McLeod family and enjoying the weather and hospitality of the region.

Dr. Messier is a Board Certified Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, with the practice of McLeod Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates. He joins fellow physicians Dr. Michael Carmichael, Dr. Cary Huber, and Dr. Scot Schultz.

Prior to joining McLeod, Dr. Messier served as a Clinical Instructor in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. With 20 years of experience, Dr. Messier has held multiple faculty appointments in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Areas of Expertise include Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery, Minimally Invasive Heart Valve Repair and Replacement, Lung Cancer Surgery and Thoracic Aneurysm Surgery.

Dr. Messier received his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, DC in 1988. Further study includes Post Graduate Training at Georgetown University Graduate School, Washington, DC in 1995, a General Surgery Residency at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, DC completed in 1996, and a Fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA in 1999.
