McLeod Dillon Auxiliary Purchases Patient Equipment for Hospital

McLEOD DILLION 22 OCTOBER 2012

(10/22/12) – Through their hard work and fundraising efforts, the McLeod Dillon Volunteer Auxiliary has recently purchased a wheelchair and an electrical stimulation/ultrasound unit for the Physical Therapy Department.

"The available wheelchair in the therapy department will assist patient with ambulation difficulties with entering and exiting the department. The wheelchair is also used to teach transfers to patients," said Philip Verjans, Director of Rehabilitative Services.

"The electrical stimulation/ultrasound unit is used to provide pain relieving and anti-inflammatory treatments for patient with musculoskeletal problems or injuries. It is a perfect addition for our growing department. Having the extra unit available will decrease the waiting time for patients," said Verjans.

The Hospital Auxiliary promotes McLeod Medical Center Dillon through its volunteer efforts. Volunteering many hours per month, they operate the Pink Dogwood gift shop and give of their time at hospital functions, in the Cardiac Rehab Department, in the hospital’s front lobby welcoming visitors and at Red Cross blood drives among many other events throughout the year. Proceeds from the gift shop and several other annual fundraisers have been used to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment and other items that enhance patient care for McLeod Medical Center Dillon. The Auxiliary members have established a scholarship fund to encourage deserving individuals in Dillon County to further their education in health-related careers.
