Loris Extended Care Center Hosted Student Volunteers From South Korea

McLEOD LORIS 21 MARCH 2014

(12/23/2013)  The activities department at Loris Extended Care Center recently teamed with Regal Cutting Tools, Inc. to host ten student volunteers from South Korea.

The students, from Ulsan Miester High School in Ulsan, South Korea, came to the United States as part of the Global Competency Development Program. While here, they completed English classes, worked in an internship program at Regal Cutting Tools, visited the Grace Christian School Youth group multiple times and even performed Tae Kwon Do at the Loris Bog-Off Festival.

While volunteering at Loris Extended Care Center, the students would assist in the activities department by playing games with the residents, participating in arts and crafts, transporting the residents to and from the dining and activities rooms, and learning as much as they could about caring for the aging.

"We enjoyed their visit with us. They were eager to see everything they could and learn about how we live in America," said Farlen Lewis, Regal Cutting Tools Plant Manager. "I was surprised at how positive they reacted after seeing how we live. Many of the students wanted to stay and plan to return some day. I was proud of all of the positive community support and how welcomed they were everywhere."

Regal Cutting Tools, located in Loris since 1981, has been owned by YG-1 since 2006. The company manufactures standard taps and special drills for the aerospace industry.
