Foundation Grant Provides Education and Training for Surgical Department

McLEOD LORIS 5 JUNE 2014

Little River, SC—June 5, 2014—Thanks to the generosity of an educational grant awarded by the McLeod Health Foundation, McLeod Loris Seacoast would like to recognize Julie Lowry, RN, and Shelia Cribb, RN, for their completion of the Laser Safety Officer training. These positions will allow each facility to establish a formal laser safety program, which will monitor and enforce all elements of the nationally mandated standards by the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN).

The Foundation raises money each year from individuals and corporate donors and by hosting various events and sales. The mission of the Foundation is to generate philanthropic and community support to achieve medical excellence at McLeod Health. The surgical department at McLeod Loris Seacoast was presented this grant in the spring of 2013 to enhance education and training for its staff members.

"Without the support of our community donors, employees and volunteers, none of this would be possible," said Kelly Hughes, Director of the McLeod Health Foundation at McLeod Loris Seacoast. "Their generous donations allow the Foundation to continue to grow and be able to fund items that will benefit our patients and their families for years to come."
