(11/27/12) – Avie J. Rainwater, III, Ph.D., ABPP, BCIA, AAPM, Senior Partner of LifeCare Psychology Group, has been appointed to serve a four year term on the National Board of Directors of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology beginning in 2013. 

Dr. Rainwater, a McLeod Psychologist, will aid in supporting the mission of the Academy as well as work with the organization in selecting candidates for Board Certification. 

The American Academy of Clinical Psychology is an organization of Board Certified Psychologists in the specialty of Clinical Psychology, who have joined together to promote high quality services in Clinical Psychology and encourage Board Certification among other Clinical Psychologists. Board Certification indicates a standard of practice greater than that of state licensure. 

The Board Certification process is a three step process of: 1) an exam; 2) submitting work products along with video of the candidate performing the work, and 3) completing a six hour oral exam. In his work with the Academy, Dr. Rainwater serves on the panel of psychologists conducting and evaluating these oral exams. 

Dr. Rainwater is Board Certified in Clinical Psychology as well as Biofeedback and Pain Management. He completed his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He completed a Clinical Psychology Residency at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire, as well as a Biofeedback Fellowship at Children’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Rainwater has also served on the National Board of the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America as well as on the National Board for the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. 

Dr. Rainwater has cared for patients in the area for more than 20 years through his work as a former Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Psychiatry at the McLeod Family Medicine Center; caring for patients at McLeod Regional Medical Center, and in private practice with LifeCare.
