Dr. Ala Abdel Jalil, a Hospitalist with McLeod Regional Medical Center, presented four abstracts to the annual scientific meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) in San Diego, California, this month. The conference was held October 11 through 16, 2013, at the San Diego Convention Center. Dr. Abdel Jalil presented his abstracts on Sunday, October 13, Monday, October 14, and Tuesday, October 15.

Two of Dr. Abdel Jalil’s abstracts are related to an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) study conducted at McLeod Regional Medical Center (MRMC) along with the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The two abstracts are titled "Fluoroscopy Time during ERCP Differs According to Anatomical Site of Treatment: A Multicenter Retrospective Study" and "Correlation of Fluoroscopy Utilization with ERCP Complexity Grade: A Multicenter Retrospective Study."

The third abstract, "Risk Factors for Diverticular Bleeding and Re-Bleeding: A United States Community-Based Hospital Study," is a study conducted solely at MRMC. Dr. Moss Mann, a Gastroenterologist with Pee Dee Gastroenterology Associates, also helped guide this particular study. In addition, Francis Marion University (FMU) provided support with statistical data.

The fourth abstract, titled "Adult Intussusceptions: A Rare Cause of Bowel Obstruction Secondary to a Tubulovillous Adenoma," is about a case report Dr. Abdel Jalil worked on with Gastroenterologist Dr. Deepak Chowdhary also with Pee Dee Gastroenterology Associates.

Dr. Abdel Jalil also has two manuscripts that have been accepted for publication. The first manuscript, "Primary Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Diagnosed Using Endoscopic Ultrasound with Fine Needle Aspiration," will be printed in Clinical Endoscopy. The second manuscript, which is a case report and review of literature titled "Giant Fundic Gland Polyp," will be printed in Consultant Live.

Dr. Abdel Jalil is board certified in Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan. He completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Dr. Jalil participated in the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training (GCSRT) program at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Abdel Jalil cares for patients as a Hospitalist, or Inpatient Physician, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
