Certified Lactation Counselors at McLeod Dillon Offer Breastfeeding Support

McLEOD DILLION 18 JUNE 2015

To support new mothers in their breastfeeding efforts, and to help them achieve the breastfeeding experience that they desire, McLeod Dillon has added Certified Lactation Counselors® (CLC) to their maternity services team. CLCs are members of the healthcare team who can provide knowledge and counseling about breastfeeding. These individuals help moms every day have a positive and healthy breastfeeding experience.

In the McLeod Dillon Birthing Center and Postpartum Unit, Patricia Jones, RN, Lisa Johnson, RN, Carol Webb, RN, are CLCs. In addition, Andrea Atkins, NP-C, at McLeod OB/GYN Dillon is a CLC.

"Numerous studies have shown that breastfeeding protects babies and mothers from illness, and promotes life-long health benefits for the newborn. In addition, breastfeeding also creates a special bond between the mother and baby," said Patricia Jones, RN, Director of Women’s Services at McLeod Dillon.

The McLeod Resource Center offers additional support to breastfeeding moms after going home from the hospital. This McLeod Lactation Team provides one-on-one lactation support to assist individuals with questions or concerns they may have. To make an appointment, call the McLeod Resource Center at 843-777-2890. Telephone counseling is also offered. The Resource Center is located on the McLeod campus in the Levy House behind the McLeod Pavilion, and is open Monday though Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. All moms who deliver at any McLeod facility have six weeks of outpatient lactation services available at no charge. For non-McLeod deliveries, McLeod outpatient lactation consultations are available for a fee.
