McLeod Acting Internship Structure
Internship Overview
Duration: 2-4 weeks
Locations: McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence SC
McLeod Health Clarendon, Manning, SC
McLeod Health Cheraw, Cheraw, SC
Acting Interns (MS4 or OM4) will work one-on-one with attending physicians. You will be paired with faculty and residents from our Family Medicine Residency Programs and/or faculty who will be actively involved in our upcoming Internal Medicine Residency, which will welcome its first class of 10 residents in July 2026.
Rotations Include
- Inpatient Adult Medicine
- Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine: Medical ICU, Trauma ICU, Cardiac Critical Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU and Inpatient Pulmonary Consult Service
- Inpatient Pediatrics
- Inpatient Obstetrics and Gynecology/Newborn Nursery
- Full Spectrum Outpatient Primary Care
Acting Internship Responsibilities
Acting Interns evaluate and manage patients with faculty oversight
Acting Interns will:
- Obtain independent history and physicals on new patients and follow-ups.
- Develop and present care plans including differentials for all active problems.
- Assist faculty in entering orders into EPIC.
- Write history as well as physical and daily follow-up notes on all patients.
- Independently search medical literature for questions that arise during direct patient care. Demonstrate lifelong learning skills.
- Seek feedback and show signs of growth throughout the rotation.
Work hours:
- Will have one day off in seven
- Work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Inpatient Services and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Outpatient Services.

Eligibility:
- Students from LCME or COCA-accredited U.S. Medical Schools
- Caribbean schools with affiliation agreements with McLeod Regional Medical Center
