McLeod Internal Medicine Residency – Comprehensive Training. Confident Physicians.
The McLeod Internal Medicine Residency Program offers comprehensive, hands-on training at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. As part of a locally owned, not-for-profit healthcare system with seven hospitals, residents train in an environment supported by a broad range of Internal Medicine subspecialties and clinical services.
Residents gain experience designed to prepare them for successful careers in Primary Care, Hospital Medicine or subspecialty training. Through the guidance of experienced physician leaders and subspecialty educational coordinators, residents build the clinical knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed for the next step in their careers.

Residents Train at Our Regional Hospital
Our Internal Medicine Residents will train at McLeod Regional Medical Center (MRMC), a 517-bed, locally owned, not-for-profit hospital in Florence, SC. MRMC is a full-service hospital with robust service lines in all Internal Medicine Sub-specialties. It is home to onsite Interventional Cardiology, four intensive care units (Trauma, CCU, CVICU, and MICU), and onsite Oncology and Radiation/Oncology services at our Cancer Center. We are a Level II trauma center with over 100,000 emergency room visits and 40,000 admissions annually. This combination of services provides an excellent training environment.

Our Purpose
The McLeod Internal Medicine Residency Program is established to train competent, compassionate physicians to serve our community during and after residency. Through mentoring, training, and clinical experience in inpatient and outpatient settings, our goal is to equip our residents to be successful in Primary Care, Hospital Medicine, and Subspecialty fields.

Our Goals
Our program has the following goals that support and develop our mission:
- Provide clinical training and resources to ensure residents are competitive for jobs in Primary Care, Hospital Medicine, and Subspecialty Fellowship
- Provide resources and mentoring to create a culture of clinical curiosity where residents seek to improve individual and system-based care through quality improvement projects and research
- Train residents in the business of medicine through formal lectures, committee involvement, and regular interaction with administrative leaders
- Provide training and regular exposure to multidisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, case managers, social workers, nurses, pharmacists, and therapists (PT, OT, Speech, Behavioral health)
- Provide a standardized didactic curriculum that exposes residents to the breadth of IM through formal lectures, case presentations, MMI, and journal club
