The Department of Pastoral Services provides Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) accredited clinical pastoral education. Education is offered to ministerial students, clergy, and interested lay people.
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is interfaith professional education for ministry. It brings theological students and ministers of all faiths (pastors, priests, rabbis, imams and others) into supervised encounter with persons in crisis. Out of an intense involvement with persons in need, and the feedback from peers and teachers, students develop new awareness of themselves as persons and of the needs of those to whom they minister. From theological reflection on specific human situations, they gain a new understanding of ministry. Within the interdisciplinary team process of helping persons, they develop skills in interpersonal and interprofessional relationships.
The essential elements of CPE include:
Fall 2018 Extended Unit
July 16- December 17, 2018
The Extended Unit Program allows students to complete one unit of CPE by attending the program on a part-time basis, typically about 20 hours per week. This program is especially suited for working pastors and others who wish to devote part of their time to learning the art of pastoral care and need flexibility in their schedules. Seminars are typically held for one-half day each week, with flexibility in scheduling hours for patient care. Students also participate in the chaplain on-call schedule. See Information booklet for further details. We recommend applying six-months in advance, as applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Tuition: $450.
Persons interested in CPE should apply through the Pastoral Services Department. The following instructions will guide your application:
As an ACPE, Inc. accredited center, the McLeod CPE program does not discriminate against persons on the basis of race, gender, age, faith group, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.
