McLeod Regional Medical Cener offers Clinical Pastoral Education accredited through the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). Education is provided to seminary students and clergy, and qualified lay people of various faith traditions.
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is interfaith professional education for ministry. It brings theological students and ministers of all faiths (pastors, priests, rabbis, imams and others) into supervised encounter with persons in crisis. Out of an intense involvement with persons in need, and the feedback from peers and teachers, students develop new awareness of themselves as persons and of the needs of those to whom they minister. From theological reflection on specific human situations, they gain a new understanding of ministry. Within the interdisciplinary team process of helping persons, they develop skills in interpersonal and interprofessional relationships.
The essential elements of CPE include:
We our currently accepting applications for the next CPE unit which will begin in January 2020.
The Extended Unit Program allows students to complete one unit of CPE by attending the program on a part-time basis, typically about 20 hours per week. This program is especially suited for working pastors and others who wish to devote part of their time to learning the art of pastoral care and need flexibility in their schedules. Seminars are typically held for one-half day each week, with flexibility in scheduling hours for patient care. Students also participate in the chaplain overnight on-call schedule. See Information booklet for further details. We recommend applying six-months in advance, as applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Tuition: $400.
Persons interested in CPE should apply through the Pastoral Services Department. The following instructions will guide your application:
