Ultrasound Imaging is a Method of Obtaining Images From Inside the Human Body Through the Use of High Frequency Sound Waves

No ionizing radiation is involved in ultrasound imaging; therefore, it can be used safely on pregnant women.

The McLeod Ultrasound Department features state-of-the-art equipment, including an ultrasound machine located in the Emergency Department to search for fluid in the abdomen. The use of ultrasound provides support for the region's largest neonatal unit and perinatal program, located at McLeod. If needed, mobile equipment can be delivered to the patient's room.

The McLeod Ultrasound Department provides the following types of ultrasound exams:

  • Abdomen
  • Cranial
  • Endovaginal
  • Gallbladder
  • Obstetrical
  • Pancreas
  • Pelvic
  • Renal (Kidneys)
  • Scrotal (Testicular)
  • Thyroid (Neck)
  • Needle Biopsies
  • Paracentesis
  • Thoracentesis

Three-Year Term of Accreditation by the American College of Radiology

The McLeod Regional Medical Center Department of Ultrasound is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

For your convenience, Ultrasound imaging is performed at three locations on the MRMC Campus

  • McLeod Tower, First Floor, 555 East Cheves Street, Florence
