The American Heart Association is a national volunteer agency dedicated to creating healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Their goal is to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by the year 2020.
- Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States, causing 40.6% of all deaths.
- Stroke is the number four killer but still remains the leading cause of serious, long term disability.
In order to achieve their 2020 goal, they must improve the number of people who understand the link between their overall health and their risk of heart disease and stroke.
