Management of patients requiring intensive hospital care

Course objectives

  • Basic principles of ventilator management
  • Fluid and acid-base balance management
  • Prevention of nosocomial infection
  • Prevention of decubitus ulcers
  • Nutritional management of intensive care patients
  • Instructional methodology
  • Rounds and discussions, patient contact, and assigned readings

Performance assessment and grading

1. Direct verbal feedback and correction.
2. End of rotation checklist ratings of medical knowledge, judgment, and professionalism.
