Has any other single nonprofit organization benefited more people in the Pee Dee community than McLeod Health? This is a question that Mike and Kim Roberts would pose to anyone asking why it's important to support the McLeod Health Foundation.
"So many families in Florence have been touched by the good work McLeod does," Mike explains. "It greatly impacts life in our community."
Mike and Kim moved to Florence in 1986 after Mike completed the graduated tax program at University of Florida College of Law. Mike now serves as the tax and estate planning practice leader for the statewide law firm of Turner Padget Graham & Laney. The couple raised their two children in Florence and relied on McLeod to provide their family with excellent medical care.
With a specialty in taxation and estate planning, Mike's expertise has benefited the McLeod Foundation in numerous ways. As a member of the Foundation's board of trustees, he has been instrumental in the development of a legacy gifts policy. He also chairs the Professional Advisory Council, which provides education and information to a group of professionals with clients who may be interested in designating legacy gifts to the Foundation.
Mike was also actively involved in the formation of the Dr. F. H. McLeod Legacy Society, established to honor those who have left legacy gifts to McLeod. Mike and Kim were charter members of the society, having allocated a gift for McLeod in their will. Designating part of their estate for charitable purposes is important to the couple. "It's a way to show our children that philanthropy is important," says Mike, who hopes that his gifts of time, knowledge and resources will help ensure the long-term viability of the Foundation.
