McLeod Sports Medicine Staff Receive Intensive ACL Prevention Training

on .

(9/16/10) - The McLeod Sports Medicine team of Physicians, Certified Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, and Physical Therapist Assistants recently participated in the intensive two-day training course of Sportsmetrics. The training took place at the McLeod Health and Fitness Center.
Sportsmetrics is the first training program scientifically proven to improve neuromuscular problems in athletes by increasing hamstring strength and teaching athletes how to land from a jump, and cut/pivot in safe positions, with proper body positioning. Sportsmetrics is an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury prevention training program that also incorporates performance enhancement techniques.

The 21 staff members that make up McLeod Sports Medicine underwent 13 hours of intense Sportsmetrics instruction from two Cincinnati Sports Medicine Research and Education Foundation faculty members. The physicians who participated in the training were Dr. Brian Blair of McLeod Orthopaedics and Dr. Pat Denton of Pee Dee Orthopaedic Associates.

McLeod Sports Medicine plans to utilize this training to help decrease the incidence of ACL injuries in the female athletic population and to help athletes gain better neuromuscular function and strength to further their abilities in their respective sport specific training.

McLeod Sports Medicine will utilize this training program with athletes throughout the Pee Dee region including Florence, Sumter, and Horry Counties. They will also incorporate this program in their annual "Peak Performance Sports Specific Training Program" held every summer to help athletes obtain the maximum out of their sports performance.

The Sportsmetrics training for McLeod Sports Medicine staff was made possible by a grant from the McLeod Foundation through the generous contribution of donors.
