McLeod Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal, along with South Carolina Safe Routes to School, hosted a bicycle rodeo for North Vista Elementary School students on Thursday, April 10. During the event, students were properly fitted for bicycle helmets, rode their bicycles through an obstacle course led by the Florence Police Department and received bicycle safety information from McLeod Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal coalition members, including South Carolina Highway Patrol, City of Florence Police Department and the City of Florence Fire Department.
During the bicycle rodeo, Kohl's presented McLeod Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal with a check for $34,557. This Kohl's Cares® donation will continue to fund the monthly Kohl's Child Safety Seat Check in Florence, as well as the bimonthly Child Safety Seat Check at the Myrtle Beach Kohl's. These programs offer child safety seat checks at no cost to the community.
"McLeod Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal is honored to once again be the recipient of the Kohl's Cares grant," said Jill Bramblett, Executive Director of the McLeod Foundation. "This funding means more growth for our programs while enhancing the safety of the children who live in our community."
Since 2008, Kohl's has donated more than $217,000 to the McLeod Health Foundation in support of McLeod Safe Kids Pee Dee/Coastal. Other McLeod Health initiatives supported through Kohl's Cares include Child Safety Seat Checks at Kohl's.
Kohl's commitment to McLeod is made possible through the Kohl's Cares cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl's sells $5 books and plush toys, with 100 percent of net profit benefiting children's health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl's has raised more than $231 million through this merchandise program. In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares features the Kohl's Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,300 young volunteers with more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl's Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 669,000 associates have donated more than 2.2 million hours of their time since 2001, and Kohl's has donated more than $63 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations. Kohl's also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations. For more information, visit www.Kohls.com/Cares.
