May is National Stroke Awareness Month 2013

Eighty percent of strokes are preventable, yet it is expected that nearly 795,000 people in the United States will have a stroke this year. On average, someone has a stroke every 40 seconds.

McLeod Dillon Hosts Blood Drive - May 2

McLeod Dillon will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, May 2, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the hospital Auxiliary Room. Donors will receive a chance to win a $1,000 gift card.

Based on American Red Cross statistics, there is a patient in need of blood every two seconds. Red blood cells must be used within 42 days, and platelets, a blood component, can only be stored for five days after donation, so the blood supply has to be constantly replenished.

McLeod Medical Center Dillon is partnering with the March of Dimes to lower the number of babies born too soon at their hospital.
