McLeod Health is committed to the entire birthing process, from labor and delivery to recovery and post-partum care. In 2005, McLeod was part of the family during the experience of 2,000 births. These numbers are the catalyst behind the upcoming eleven to seventeen bed increase for preterm patients, and eight to ten room increase in birthing suites.
The McLeod Newborn Nursery is growing as well. In addition, McLeod has installed the Halo Infant Security System, the finest in infant exit protection, which uses an advanced transponder security system to alarm staff of an unauthorized removal of a child.
McLeod is pleased to be the only hospital in the region to offer the in-house obstetrical services of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in addition to full time access to an Obstetrics Anesthesiologist.
McLeod offers the support of a Doula (a Greek word for experienced woman helper), who remains by the laboring woman's side throughout the entire labor. The Doula recognizes birth is a key life experience that a mother will remember all her life, and nurtures and protects the childbirth memory. The Doula provides a calm atmosphere, helping the patient feel more at ease, and provides emotional, physical, and informational support to the laboring woman and her family. She is one-on-one with the patient, not leaving her side. She communicates the patient's desires to the medical staff, and works with the nurse to help the patient understand what the processes taking place.
Any laboring woman admitted to McLeod has access to a Doula at no charge, on a first come-first-serve basis. When admitted, if she is requested and available, a Doula will accompany the woman throughout her delivery. |
