Maureen Byrd RN, Breast Health Specialist, assists as a care coordinator for breast cancer patients. If a patient receives abnormal results from her mammogram, Byrd becomes involved. She contacts the patient to make sure all of their questions are answered, and gives them her beeper number, from which she can be reached 24 hours a day. In addition, Byrd works with the physicians to inform the patient of their potential treatment options and can help the patient think through solutions while going through a very stressful time. She assists patients with doctor appointments, helps with arranging for follow up visits and makes sure that the patient stays well informed.
