Prevention
The first priority of the McLeod Breast Health Center is to provide breast cancer awareness to women in the Pee Dee. The McLeod Resource Center is open five days a week and offers free materials and a caring staff to answer questions. The McLeod Community Education Coordinator regularly provides the community and industries with the most recent breast health information and resources.

Eating right, being active, and maintaining a healthy weight are important ways to reduce your risk of cancer. Aim for a healthy diet, learn to control calories and portion sizes and find activities to fit your lifestyle.

Detection
Because early detection is the best defense for beast cancer, every April and October McLeod provides free breast cancer screenings to the community. Routine mammograms lead to early detection. McLeod mammography technicians are certified to perform mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies providing patients with continuity of care through the diagnosis process.

Treatment
McLeod provides every breast cancer patient with individualized treatment. Patients have their own certified breast care educator, the McLeod Breast Health Specialist, who coordinates the unique clinical, educational and support needs of each breast cancer patient and her family. She is available 24 hours a day directly by beeper or via www.McLeodHealth.org. Additionally, a specialized Breast Center made up of a multidisciplinary team of physicians meet weekly to collectively decide on individual treatment plans for every breast cancer patient at McLeod. This means that every breast cancer patient receives optimal study and care specific to their case with a second, third, fourth and even fifth medical opinion for free.

Recovery
In addition to saving lives and improving the outlook for women with breast cancer, the McLeod Breast Health Center aims to involve patients and their families in the entire treatment plan, offering personal care and individualized treatment 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
