Each year, McLeod is part of the family during the experience of more than 2,000 births. These numbers served as the catalyst for the addition to the second floor of the McLeod Pavilion, the new Newborn Nursery, which opened in July of 2007. The Nursery is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, and showcases many unique features, including cloud light coverings that add a soft and airy touch. McLeod has also installed the Halo Infant Security System, the finest in infant exit protection, which uses an advanced transponder security system to alarm staff of an unauthorized removal of a baby. The Nursery recently received two new Panda Warmers, through funding from the McLeod Health Foundation, which provide warmth to the babies in an effort to acclimate them to their new environment during the first two to four hours after birth.
The Postpartum and Gynecological Suites have received a facelift as well. The 18-bed Postpartum Unit and 6-bed Gynecological Services Unit have been enhanced with new window treatments, shower curtains, paint, tile floors, and sleeper sofas. The postpartum rooms are also furnished with Glide Rockers. These rocking chairs allow a mother and her baby to bond with increased comfort and safety compared to traditional rocking chairs.
