McLeod Health is pleased to host two outstanding residency programs: the McLeod Family Medicine Residency Program and the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program PGY1.
The McLeod Family Medicine Residency is a program at McLeod Health designed to train the “physicians of tomorrow” in an effort to increase the availability of family medicine physicians for patients in the Pee Dee and other rural areas of South Carolina.
In existence since 1980, the Residency Program’s mission is to graduate skilled family physicians who will provide superior health care services to underserved areas of primarily rural South Carolina.
The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program accepted their first residents in 2006. In 2007, McLeod Health was pleased to announce the accreditation of the Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program. This accreditation was awarded by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
The Pharmacy Residency Program's goal is to develop a professional maturity through compassionate direct patient care, project management, communication, and leadership skills. They work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective medication usage in a cost-effective manner. After completion of the residency program, residents are well prepared to pursue a PGY2 residency program or clinical pharmacist position.
