The McLeod Hand Center is a full service outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation clinic offering expertise in hand and upper extremity therapy. The hand therapy staff includes four specially trainedOccupational Therapists. Through the use of objective instruments and assessments, these specialized therapists determine the needs of the patient and create a treatment program for the individual. Problem areas addressed may include: edema (swelling), sensation deficits, tissue damage, loss of motion, loss of muscle strength, loss of hand and upper extremity functioning, difficulty with coordination, pain, the need for prosthetic training, and the need for splinting.
Available Services:
Wound management services include debridement, suture removal, dressing changes, pin care and patient education for home programs
Pain management provides modalities, exercise, stretching and pain reduction techniques
Therapeutic exercise and manual therapy is performed to regain motion, strength and dexterity
Splinting includes customized static, serial static and dynamic splints, which are made to protect injured structures, to mobilize stiff joints and to enhance upper extremity function
Activities of daily living and adaptive equipment needs are assessed and training is provided to encourage independence in self-care activities
Prosthetic services include wound care, stump preparation, and prosthetic training
