Ultrasound imaging, also known as ultrasound scanning or sonography, is a method of obtaining images from inside the human body through the use of an ultrasound beam (high frequency sound waves). No ionizing radiation is involved in ultrasound imaging; therefor it can be used safely on pregnant women.
McLeod's Ultrasound Department features state-of-the-art equipment, including an ultrasound machine located in the Emergency Department to search for fluid in the abdomen. The use of ultrasound provides support for the region's largest neonatal unit and perinatal program, located at McLeod. If needed, mobile equipment can be delivered to the patient's room.
The McLeod Ultrasound Department provides the following types of utlrasound exams; Abdomen, Cranial, Endovaginal, Gallbladder, Obstetrical, Pancreas, Pelvic, Renal(Kidneys), Scrotal(Testicular), Thyroid(Neck), Needle Biopsies, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis.
McLeod Health has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
