Pursuing Perfection at McLeod Health
McLeod Regional Medical Center is one of only seven health care organizations in the country selected to lead improvements in health care quality. "Pursuing Perfection: Raising the Bar for Health Care Performance" is a $21 million initiative sponsored by the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), an internationally recognized leader in health care quality.
"Medical Excellence has long been a cornerstone of McLeod Health," stated Robert L. Colones, Executive Vice President of McLeod Regional Medical Center. "We are honored that our efforts to build on that cornerstone will be viewed as a model for delivering higher quality care across the nation."
RWJF and IHI reviewed more than 200 hospital and physician organizations across the country before selecting McLeod to join this exclusive group. Other organizations selected include Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare in Florida, Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts, Saint Joseph Hospital in Washington State, Children's Hospital Medical Center in Ohio, and the Health Partners Medical Group and Clinics in Minnesota.
During the next three years, the McLeod medical staff and employees will seek ways to deliver care so that patients are diagnosed even more efficiently and treated successfully, while recovering in a shorter time with less pain.
Target areas for the grant include the following pilot programs: focusing on achievement of higher than national best practice rates for treatment of heart disease and eliminating adverse drug events, capitalizing on enhancements in computer technology, and providing extensive training to medical and hospital staff.
